Saturday 8-04-07 Pre-Trip Day - Ft. Stevenson

I decided to ride up to Garrison with my neighbor Greg who lives just down the road in the valley to the west of my place. He stopped by the last night on his daily ride up the hill with his big dog Max and asked if we could ride together since we both go every year. I offered to drive since my little Tracker takes so much less gas and my bike rack holds 2 bikes. It was a nice trip up to the lake - a different route than I usually take.

I was in my usual spot and he in his - it is funny how the people who come back every year have their own spot @ Ft Stevenson - like going to church or something. I set up next to Archie (Jamestown) and Mike (Great Falls MT) and we catch up on biking we've done the past year. Archie even bought me another t-shirt they were selling.

It wasn't too hot, but kind of hazy due to a huge fire out in Montana which also provided a beautiful red sunset. For the evening meal I found Debbie & Shiela and met Deb's husband - who is joining us for his first tour - complete with new bikes - (all from Jamestown). Also found Brian & Rick (Alexandria MN) and Lisa (Mandan). The KXMB television weatherman gave a little speech (his wife is riding with us this year) and says we might have rain on Monday. He also gave a rather depressing account of all the things that can happen to you if caught out in a heavy thunderstorm. But I guess it is all good information to have. And as usual, as I lay down to try and sleep, I am missing my dogs.
